Two more Indiana legislative blogs

It turns out that at least two other Indiana legislators have blogs of their own. Representative Steve Heim (R – Culver) and Senator David Ford (R - Hartford City) both have Blogger accounts.

Representative Heim seems to have begun posting on December 1st, and Senator Ford started back in March of this year. If anyone knows of any other Indiana legislative blogs that I have missed, please let me know.

(Thanks to Masson’s Blog and Lawmakers for pointing them out.)

Back to business

Well, the wedding is over, and Angie and I are now officially happily married. It was a great time for both of us, and all of our friends and family. We don’t have the pictures yet, but I may put one up when we get them from the photographer.

While I was away, I was happy to receive mention from Doug Kenline at Lawmakers, a blog tracking how many legislators across the country are maintaining public blogs for their constituencies. His review of my site was very generous, and at his suggestion I have added a Sitemeter button at the bottom of the page for added transparency.

Another good listing of state legislative blogs can be found at the National Conference of State Legislators website that tries to keep track of them. Hopefully we will see more from Indiana join that list!

Indiana also has a growing number of political and policy blogs of good quality from across the political spectrum. Below are just a few that I try to read on a regular basis:

Indiana Parley – Mitch Harper (former Indiana State Representative)
Kemplog – Focusing recently on the CAFO issue
INCourts – Good recent focus on Indiana sentencing law

There are many more, and each of the sites above have links to many other great Indiana resources.

This website has been running smoothly, and I plan to continue updating it into the upcoming legislative session. If you have any suggestions, please feel free to let me know.

Update: My addition of a stat counter has prompted Doug at Lawmakers to bump my blog from “Runner Up” status into the “Best” category, alongside U.S. Representative John Conyers, and Texas State Representative Aaron Pena. Thanks for the honor Doug!

Brief hiatus

This website will have a short break from updates for the next week or two.

I will be getting married on Saturday, November 26th, and I plan on taking a little time off after the wedding, but should be back to regular-ish postings in December.

Kernan Portrait contains a little hidden South Bend

unveilingI attended the unveiling ceremony for Governor Joe Kernan’s official portrait last Friday in the Statehouse. The entertaining speakers included Maggie Kernan, former Lieutenant Governor Kathy Davis, and Governor Mitch Daniels.

An interesting detail of the portrait is the small seal of the City of South Bend on the desk in the lower left-hand corner. The seal commemorates Kernan’s years as Mayor of his hometown.

Visitors to the Statehouse can see the portrait for themselves hanging in the public reception area of the Governor’s office.
