Child support and elected officials
January 5th, 2006
The South Bend Tribune today wrote a story about HB 1104, my bill (which I mentioned in an earlier post) that would remove from office any elected official who is more than $15,000 delinquent in child support payments:
Dvorak said the proposed legislation is really a “measure of responsibility.”
“The few (elected officials) that lack respect for their legal and moral obligations should not be entrusted with managing public programs or taxpayer dollars.”
WNDU-TV also interviewed me today for a story they titled “Dvorak introduces controversial legislation“:
Dvorak says, “I think it sets a very bad example for the rest of the citizens, when they see elected officials that are going massively delinquent in child support, and also there’s questions of trust and responsibility.”
I have also spoken with FOX28-TV about the bill, and they should be airing a story this evening, as well. (update: FOX28 story here)
If you have an opinion about this legislation, feel free to leave a comment here or let me know.

I think this is a great idea. I also think that there should be more done to catch all the dead beat dads in Indiana.

I absolutely agree with this bill and not just because I can’t stand David Snyder. Although it doesn’t hurt!! His reply about you not respecting the wishes of Roseland voters just killed me!! Him and his wife are the ones not respecting our wishes we’ve done everything to get them to step down. He should be ashamed of himself not paying his support and having the nerve to drive a Jag!! The fact that he’s so arrogant about the support shows what kind of man he is! Not a good one for sure. I’m tired of his excuses about his low income! Then maybe he should get a JOB, a REAL one! I have TWO!!

Thank you for your support for the legislation.
I am working to get the bill a hearing, and will update on its status when I have more information.

Thank you!!! It’s about time that legislation listens to the people of Indiana! Not only here in Roseland, but also in the state where “dead beat dads” are turning their heads to the needs of the children that they brought into this world. Not only has David Snyder NOT paid his child support, he also has turned his back on the citizens that he took an oath to represent. His wife has followed him in his quest. From his desire to “beautify Roseland” by deminishing our funding for our parks and recreation, not fixing the problems with our sewer/water litigation, or updating the citizens of exactly what is being done, by fining the citizens for posting a “God Bless Our Troops” sign on our properties, or perhaps it was the American Flag that flies proudly in my front yard!? (He never stated exactly what the citation was for!)
If a representative of the public is unable to meet his family obligatons, how can the citizens expect this representative to meet his political obligations? David Snyder has been charged with contempt of court, which he was fined $11,250 for this crime. He has proven in a court that he will deceive the courts to benefit himself and his wife, but not his children! I am thankful that the judge found him in contempt and saw past his red faced untruths.
As citizens of Roseland have stated to me personally, once we publicly vent our frustrations of David and Dorothy Snyder, we will no longer be able to speak at their public meetings, and have been singled out to be ejected from every public town meeting that we attend. Is this any way for a town official to treat the voters who could take them to their demise? In the eyes of the Snyders, it definitely is!
Just one more comment. I realize that you must present this bill at the hearing, but also remember that of 100 seats up for election, don’t you believe that now is the time to get them to speak? Northern Indiana WILL BE LISTENING AND VOTING IN OUR STATE ELECTIONS!
Thank you so much for representing the public!!

I’m glad someone is finally doing something to put an end to Snyders reighn. How can a man write people tickets for a violation of ” town ordinances”when he can’t follow a “judges order”? it is unbelievable in this day and age that things like this are still able to happen. Thanks for your help in removing him from POWER. Roseland is counting on you.
